From Proto-Albanian *wradjā, related to rrënjë[1], or from Proto-Indo-European *h₃érsos, from the root *ers- 'behind; tail'. Cognate to Ancient Greek ὄρρος (órrhos), Old Norse ars, rass, Old English ears 'buttocks', Old Irish err (tail, end).
