Etymology

Back-formation from rrafshoj. The latter is derived from *rrav + -shoj, the first element borrowed from Proto-Slavic *orvьnъ ("even"); compare Serbo-Croatian ravan, Bulgarian равен (raven).[1] Alternatively from rraf, Gheg form of rrah 'to beat, strike; grubbed out land'.
