Etymology

From Proto-Finnic *riihi. Cognates include Estonian rehi, Karelian riihi. Swedish ria and Latvian rija are borrowings from Finnic.

  1. (agriculture, historical) A traditional Scandinavian and Russian grain drying and threshing cabin, in which the grain was dried in the heat and smoke of a chimneyless stove and then threshed on the floor.
