  1. Used as fortifier for adjectives, most proper translation into English being often "very" or "quite".
    Olut on siellä peräti kallista.
    Beer is quite expensive at that place.
  2. Used with numerals to indicate that the figure is either in high or low end of the ordinary range. Translated into English as "as much as, up to, even" or "as little as".
    Olut maksaa siellä peräti 10 euroa.
    A beer costs as much as 10 euros there.
