Borrowed from Ottoman Turkish پاشا (pāšā) (Turkish paşa); this either from Persian پادشاه (pādšāh, padishah, king),[1] or from [script needed] (baş, head),[2] or from [script needed] (beşe, boy, prince), this in turn from Persian بچّه (bačče).[3]
