From Vulgar Latin *ordiniāre, itself from Latin ōrdināre, present active infinitive of ōrdinō, or from *ordinium, from ōrdō, ōrdinis. Compare Portuguese ordenhar, Sardinian ordinzare; cf. also Italian ordigno. Doublet of ordenar.
