Possibly borrowed from or cognate to Albanian nepërkë (adder, viper), from fuller nepërtkë, originally ‘hatchling snake’, from Proto-Slavic *nepъrtъkъ (compare Bulgarian непрътък (neprǎtǎk, buttercup)).
