From Proto-Albanian *ən-dūja, possibly from Proto-Indo-European *dʰewh₂- (smoke, mist, haze). Cognate with Latvian dujs (dirty), Lithuanian dujà (swamp; mist, drizzle), English dusk and possibly Dacian Δουιανα (Duiana), a toponym.
