Etymology

From Proto-Vietic *ɓuh, from Proto-Mon-Khmer *ɓuh ~ *ɓuuh (to bubble; boil). Cognate with Thavung บุฮ, Khmer ពុះ (puh, to boil), Semai boh (froth, foam) and Talieng [ʔboh] ("foam, bubbles"). Other cognates through affixed form are Khmer ពពុះ (pɔpuh, foam), Semai buboh (foam) and Mon ဗၜိုဟ် (həbɒh, foam).
