From earlier *misā, from Proto-Albanian *meisā, from Proto-Indo-European *mei-ĝh 'to mix, stir'. Compare Ancient Greek μείξω (meíxō, “mix, mingle”), Latin misceō (“mix”), Old High German miskan (“mix”), Lithuanian miešiù and Old Irish mesc (“drunk”).
