From earlier *misā, from Proto-Albanian *meisā, from Proto-Indo-European *mei-ĝh 'to mix, stir'. Compare Ancient Greek μείξω (meíxō, mix, mingle), Latin misceō (mix), Old High German miskan (mix), Lithuanian miešiù and Old Irish mesc (drunk).
