Etymology

From Yiddish משוגע‎ (meshuge, “crazy”), from Hebrew מְשׁוּגָּע‎ (m'shugá, “crazy”), a form of שׁוּגַּע‎ (shugá, “be driven mad”) and שִׁיגַּע‎ (shigá, “drive mad”). First came into use in English around 1880.
