Etymology
A compound of m'neto (“supernatural being”), from Proto-Algonquian *maneto·wa (“supernatural being”), and kwe' (“woman”), from Proto-Algonquian *eθkwe·wa (“(young) woman”), because such people were considered to have supernatural spiritual power and wisdom.
