From late Old Swedish lætia, from earlier læti, from Old Norse leti. Cognate with Icelandic leti, Faroese leti, Gothic 𐌻𐌰𐍄𐌴𐌹 (latei) and Old High German lazzī. Related with lat (“lazy”).
