lanttu

Finnish

Etymology

From Swedish planta (seedling) > planttu > lanttu (unlike turnip, the plant needs to be grown from seedlings to reach maturity in Finland's short summer).

Noun

lanttu

  1. swede, rutabaga (root and the plant).
  2. (colloquial) head, brain, noodle; usually together with the verb leikata (to cut)

That guy's got a sharp head.
    Eikö lanttu leikkaa?
    Don't you get it?
