From Proto-Finnic [Term?], either from Proto-Germanic *hauhaz, or from Proto-Finno-Ugric *kawka, ultimately from Proto-Indo-European *kewk-. Compare Erzya кувака (kuvaka, long, lengthy) and Khanty [script needed] (χŏw, faraway, long). Cognate to Finnish kauko- and Votic kaukaa.
