Etymology

Ultimately a derivation of Proto-Turkic *yạĺ(č)- (to blaze, flame). Cognate with Turkish ışık (light), Turkmen yşyk (light), Chuvash ҫиҫ (śiś, to shine), ҫиҫӗм (śiśĕm, lightning).
