From Proto-Albanian *hā̆ul-, from Proto-Indo-European *h₂eu-lo- (hollow). Cognate to Ancient Greek αὐλός (aulós, oblong, hollow) and Old Norse (huann-)jóli (hollow stalk, stem).[1]
