  1. (intransitive) snap, break off
    Käppen gick av.
    The cane snapped off.
    Muggens öra har gått av.
    The ear of the mug has broken off.
  2. go off, disembark
    Vi ska gå av bussen vid nästa hållplats.
    We should go off the bus at the next stop.
  3. (about firearms) fire (unintentionally)
    Rikta aldrig vapnet mot någon, ifall ett skott skulle gå av.
    Never point the gun at someone, if a shot should go off.

Usage notes

  • (snap): The corresponding transitive construction is bryta av.
  • (disembark): One can gå av a horse or most kinds of vehicles, but not a car. (That would instead be gå ur.)
