erë

Albanian

Etymology

Origin disputed. Either from Latin aere 'air', (already reflected in Albanian ajër) or from Latin odor, from an early *edër, although this would imply an initial ō, which does not occur in the Latin term. One other hypothesis is from Proto-Indo-European *h₁ey- (to go), influenced by ajër.
