From Middle English drubly, drubli, drobli, droflic, from Old English drōflīċ, *drōblīċ, from Proto-Germanic *drōbalīkaz (“turbid”), equivalent to droff or drub +‎ -ly. Cognate with Scots drublie, Old High German truoblīh (“turbid”).
