From Ottoman Turkish دیكله‌مك (diŋlemek, to listen, hear, pay attention to, obey, conform to), from Proto-Turkic *dïŋ-la-mak, *diŋ-le-mek (to listen), derived from Proto-Turkic *diŋ (reason, mind). Compare Old Turkic 𐱃𐰃𐰭𐰞𐰀 (tïŋla-, to listen), Karakhanid تِنْكْلاماقْ (tïŋlāmāq, to listen), Turkmen diňlemek (to listen).
