Uncertain. Probably an artificial creation as it has only been found in the works of one author, Murnu, created on the basis of Italian dimandare or French demander, ultimately from Latin demandāre, present active infinitive of demandō. However, the Aromanian dimãndu, dimãndari seems to be inherited from Latin, and it may have been borrowed as the source of the Romanian word (additionally, the expected Romanian result would more likely have been *demânda).
