     The reaction was initiated by adding a solution containing 50 mmol/L potassium phosphate (pH 7.0), 5 mmol/L MgSO 4 and carbonyl cyanide m -chlorophenylhydrazone (CCCP, final 20  μ mol/L) or dicyclohexylcarbodiimide (DCCD, final 50  μ mol/L), and [ 3 H] l -alanine (38 Ci mmol −1, Moravek Biochemical, Brea, CA, USA; final, 0.54  μ mol/L).
