Etymology

From Proto-Albanian *dargei-, from Proto-Indo-European *dherHg(h)-. Cognate to Lithuanian dìrgti (to feel faint, faint), Slavic *dьrgati 'to pluck, to pull', Germanic *targjan 'to tear'. Present dergjem with umlaut of the root vowel, as usual in the Albanian non-active paradigm[1].
