cãtushi
Aromanian
Alternative forms
- cãtushe, cãtushã
Etymology
From Late Latin cattus or catta, with a diminutive suffix -ushi / -ushe added later (the original root would have been *catu or *catã). Compare the Daco-Romanian cognate cătușă (“handcuffs”), which underwent further semantic change and lost the original meaning.
