claiming race (plural claiming races)
- (horse racing) A race in which the competing horse can be claimed by anyone at the specified claiming price for the race.

- In a claiming race, each horse is in a sense up for sale. That is, any owner who has raced a horse at the track during the meet in progress may put in a claim to buy any horse racing in a claiming race.
