chip time (plural chip times)

  1. The time it takes to finish a race judged by the time calculated on a transponder worn by the competitor.

Usage notes

Race transponders measure the time the competitor crosses the starting line and finish line, irrespective of the starting signal. Generally chip time is not officially accepted as the race time.
