From Latin cervisia (“beer”), from Gaulish *kerβ ̃-, e-vocalism of Proto-Celtic *kormi (“beer”), from Proto-Indo-European *ḱr̥h₃m- (“soup”).

Cognate with Galician cervexa, Spanish cerveza, Catalan cervesa and Occitan cervesa.
