Borrowed from French caïque, from Italian caicco, from Ottoman Turkish قایق‎ (kayık),[1][2] from Old Turkic kayguk, from Proto-Turkic *K(i)aj-guk (“boat, oar”). Cognate with modern Turkish kayık.
