Usage notes
  • Only used in the sense "to know some information", not in the sense "to know a person, place etc". In the latter case aithne or eòlach is used:
    A bheil fhios agad dè thachair? ― Do you know what happened?
    A bheil fhios agad air dràibheadh? ― Do you know how to drive?
    A bheil fhios agad dè an t-òran a sheinneas i? ― Do you know which song she will sing?
    A bheil fhios agad dè 'n t-ainm a tha air an òran seo? ― Do you know what is the name of this song?
    An aithne dhut ainm an òrain seo? ― Do you know the name of this song?
    An aithne dhut an òran seo? ― Do you know this song?
    A bheil thu eòlach air an duine seo? ― Do you know this person?
