From Old Italian biastema[1], from Ecclesiastical Latin, Late Latin blasphēmia (remodeled after the verb bestemmiare[2], or alternatively through a Vulgar Latin form *blastemia[3]), from Ancient Greek βλασφημία (blasphēmía).
