  1. (transitive) to chat up, sweet-talk (engage in small talk in order to seduce or convince)
    Il baratine une des serveuses. Comme elle parle allemand, lui français, les mots lui sont de peu de secours et c'est sans doute la raison pour laquelle il se tortille.
    He chats up one of the waitresses. As she speaks German, he in French, the words are of little help to him and that is probably why he struggles.
