baço
Portuguese
Etymology 1
From Old Portuguese baço, of uncertain origin, possibly from a Vulgar Latin *hepatium, from Ancient Greek ἡπάτιον (hēpátion), from ἧπαρ (hêpar, “liver”). Alternatively from Latin badius. Compare Spanish bazo.
Etymology 2
From Latin badius (“reddish-brown”), from Proto-Indo-European *badyo- (“yellow; brown”). Less likely from a Vulgar Latin *opacius, from opacus.
