autoriser

French

Etymology

From Old French auctorisier, borrowed from Medieval Latin auctorizāre, present active infinitive form of auctōrizō (I authorize, authenticate), derived from auctor, from Latin auctus, perfect passive participle of augeō (to increase, nourish), from Proto-Italic *augeō, ultimately from the Proto-Indo-European root *h₂ewg- (to increase, enlarge).
