From Proto-Germanic *hund-, from Proto-Indo-European *ḱm̥tóm (“hundred”). Related to the second part of Gothic 𐍃𐌹𐌱𐌿𐌽𐍄𐌴𐌷𐌿𐌽𐌳 (sibuntēhund, “seventy”). Akin to Old English hund-, Old Dutch ant-, cognate with Latin centum.
