analachadh

Scottish Gaelic

Noun

analachadh m (genitive singular analachaidh, plural analachaidhean)

  1. aspiration
  2. lenition

Usage notes

  • The use of analachadh for "lenition" is based on the similar use of the English term "aspiration" in the past. As this use in English is now considered incorrect (compare the different liguistic concepts of aspiration and lenition in Wikipedia), the use of sèimheachadh is preferred in modern Gaelic for "lenition".
