Etymology
From the German plural Strümpfe or rather a Rhine Franconian equivalent thereof. Eventually from Middle High German strumpf, from Proto-Germanic *strumpaz. The form entered Luxembourgish and the surrounding dialects during the 18th or 19th centuries, widely replacing native Hues.
