From Ancient Greek σικαλις (sikalis), συκαλλις (sukallis) or συκαλις (sukalis), συκαλιδος (sukalidos): a small, black-headed bird, mentioned by Epicharmus, Aristotle, and other authors; not further identified, but perhaps a sort of warbler. From συκῆ (sukê, fig tree).
