Borrowed from the Slavic pet form of the cognates of Alexander and Alexandra; in English mostly from the Russian Са́ша (Sáša), an informal pet form for both Алекса́ндр (Aleksándr, Alexander, male) and Алекса́ндра (Aleksándra, Alexandra, female).
