Proto-Slavic
Etymology
Cognate with Lithuanian po-.
According to Rejzek (2006) the original meaning was "later, secondary" since the primary evidence for the Slavic words for step-children (*pasynъkъ, *padъťi, *pasьrbъ, *pastorъkъ) is inconclusive.
