Perhaps from Proto-Indo-European *dʰowsyeh₂, from *dʰews- + *-yeh₂. Equivalent to *duxъ (spirit) + *-ja.

Compare Lithuanian daũsios f pl (air; empyrean, paradise), Gaulish dusios (phantasm).
