Etymology
outo (“strange”) + kumpu (“hillock”); originally the name of a strange-looking little hill in the municipality of Kuusjärvi, under which a large deposit of copper was found in 1910. The company founded to exploit this deposit was named after the hill, and in 1968 the municipality was renamed after it.
