Etymology

naʼnízhoozh (bridge made of planks) + (nominalizer), the planks being laid side by side across an expanse (literally, something lies side by side across). Naʼnízhoozhí refers to the old foot bridge spanning the Rio Puerco River across from the Santa Fe Railway station.
