Kichen

Luxembourgish

Alternative forms

  • Kéchen (dialectal)

Etymology

From Middle High German küchen, from Old High German chuhhina, from Proto-Germanic *kukinǭ, from Latin coquina. The -i- instead of -é- is irregular; perhaps due to interference by unrelated Kuch (“pie, cake”, diminutive Kichelchen) or influence by German Küche. Also cognate with Dutch keuken, English kitchen.

Pronunciation

  • IPA(key): /ˈkiχen/, [ˈkiɕən]

Noun

Kichen f (plural Kichen)

  1. kitchen
