Pronunciation

  • IPA(key): [ɛrɪɟɪno jabl̩ko]

Noun

Eridino jablko n

  1. (idiomatic, rare) apple of discord, something which causes argument, rivalry, or strife
    • 1896, Tomáš Garrigue Masaryk, Karel Havlíček: snahy a tužby politického probuzení, Praha: Jan Leichter, page 490:
Spory, pokud nebyly osobní, se samého počátku měly své zřídlo v „jablku Eridině“, jak Palacký sám a správně je rozpoznal. Eridino jablko byl poměr ke šlechtě, resp. určování programu demokratického.
From the very beginning the arguments, unless they were personal, were caused by the "apple of discord" as it was correctly recognized by Palacký himself. The apple of discord was the relashionship to the nobility, or more precisely determining the democratic programme.
