From Arabic قُرْآن (qurʾān, “recitation”), from قِرَاءَة (qirāʾa, “reading, recitation”), from قَرَأَ (qaraʾa, “to declaim, to recite”), apparently after Classical Syriac ܩܪܝܢܐ (qeriānā, “reading; scripture”).
