Etymology
The name Calcasieu comes from the Atakapan word, "quelqueshue" in a French transliteration, meaning "crying eagle." It was the name of an Atakapa chief, which French colonists applied to the local river, the Calcasieu River.

- one of 64 parishes in Louisiana, USA, the equivalent of a county in other US states. The parish seat is in the city of Lake Charles.
