Via Dutch abrikoos from French abricots, plural of abricot, borrowed from Arabic اَلْبَرْقُوق‎ (al-barqūq, “plums”), from Byzantine Greek βερικοκκία pl (berikokkía), from Ancient Greek πραικόκιον (praikókion), from Late Latin (persica) praecoqua pl, (mālum) praecoquum, neuter of Latin (persicum) praecox (literally “overripe peach”).
