From Proto-Germanic *Audamērijaz or *Aþalamērijaz, from either Proto-Germanic *audaz (wealth, riches) or *aþalaz (noble) (the two roots were sometimes conflated) and Proto-Germanic *mērijaz (famous). See also French Omer and English Elmer and Aylmer.
