Ultimately from Latin -izāre, itself from Ancient Greek -ίζειν (-ízein); found only in words borrowed from other languages (compare English -ize, -ise, French -iser, Spanish, Portuguese -izar, Italian -izzare), German -isieren, Russian -изировать (-izirovatʹ)).
